The 1st Rangiora Company began in 1951 and since then has seen many hundreds of boys pass through its ranks.  

We have been meeting at the   Trinity Methodist Church for over 40 years. Grant Stephens is the present Captain 

and has been for 2 years.

Notices for upcoming events are given to boys on Parade nights 

but I do email notices as well just to make sure that they get home.

Our Christchurch battalion runs two camps a year which we attend,

We also have an end of year camp for our whole group and a Company section camp for the older boys only.

We also have other various off site activities either on the Thursday parade night, 

or on a weekend such as rafting at the river, going to a park, biking, or a Bon fire night.

We play games, learn and do a variety crafts, learn bible stories, have adventures and generally have a lot of fun.   

We are not too serious but we do earn a certificate and badge at the end of the year. 

At the end of your Anchor years you move up to Team Section.

In this year you will receive an Anchor badge to record that you

 have served in the Anchor section.

This section starts at 6.30 and finish at 8 o'clock.

During the year each boy will study and do activities from four

Main subjects.  We have Physical, Educational, Social and

Spiritual.

Badges are received at the end of each year. The first year they receive a White and Green badge,

second year is Blue and Purple and the third year they receive the Silver and Red badges.

If you gain all six of these badges over three year you receive a

GOLD badge to represent all six badges for when you move up to

The Company section. You also receive a Team Section badge to record that you service in the Team section.

This section starts at 6.30 and finishes at 8 o'clock.

This group has a wide range skills and achievements on offer.   

The first badge that has to be achieved is the Target badge.  

This consists of having knowledge of Boys Brigade history, Motto, Object, basic Drill 

and a basic knowledge of knots.

Then there are five levels for each other subject to achieve during there years as a Company Boys.  

Each subject has a Certificate, then Badge, then 1st advance, 2nd advance and lastly third advance to be earned.

The highest award they can achieve is the Queens Award which is gained if the boys earn 100 points 

(through the badge scheme) have a high attendance rate, attend a weekend leadership camp, 

and a National week long camp and do over 100 hours of community service.

This section starts at 6.30 and finished at 8.30.

We have a fee of $35 per term or $140 per year.

Approx ¼ of this is a levy that must be forwarded to our Boys Brigade Headquarters in Wellington 

for administration costs, the balance is for craft and resource supplies and other costs that arise running our Company.  

There is also a $5 uniform hire per year.

If more than one boy in a family attend we have a discount available.

(Please note some activities such as Camps and swimming will be an

 extra cost.  We try to keep these to a minimum)

The company provide a polo shirt and sweatshirt in Boys Brigade colours for the hire fee of $5 per term. 

As the boys grow we arrange an exchange for a bigger size.  These are to be worn at every parade night.

We also require the boys to wear dark coloured shorts or trousers and dark shoes.  

Please try not to wear bright or multi coloured shoes.

We do run special events with the Canterbury Battalion such as the Drill competition 

or our local community i.e. ANZAC day and these require the best turnout of Uniform possible.

Uniform does not need to be worn either on camps, or other outings such as Bonfire night, or raft racing.  

We will always let you know what standard of uniform needs to be worn.

We at present have a group of five dedicated leaders who put a lot of time into running parade nights and activities.  

Please support these leaders as much as possible and if you think you could offer us some help in any capacity 

as a leader that would be great. It doesn't have to be full time but if you have some specialist subject you could

pass onto the boys that would help. But it is a great experience being a leader and seeing the boys grow in both knowledge and wisdom and achieve something they thought they could never achieve.

Start arriving from 6.20 at the Hall and maybe have a game of something or just mix with the other boys.

Parade is called by a leader calling our "Line UP"

Boys line up in there groups with the line leaders at the start of each group.

Parade is then called by the Parade Leader at the front of the Hall

Boys are then marked on their Attendance and Uniform. 

These marks counts towards prizes at the end of the year prize giving.

Company Captain will then welcome boys and may have news to report.

Parade ends with each section going to their allocated places in the hall.

Each groups has a 10 minute devotion

Each group then does the organised activity for the night until there finish time. 

Then notices are given out and for the Team and Anchor sections we say our Vesper, 

the Company does a short Prayer, just to end the night.

Then boys go home.

(In the Winter when it is dark outside the Leaders prefer that the parents come inside the hall to collect there boys)
